Meditation with Horses was absolutely fantastic! Katherine was really welcoming and had a lovely calming energy, and getting to spend time being mindful and present and relaxing around beautiful Betty was wonderful. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I feel so calm and peaceful now, I would 100% go again and I would recommend it to anyone!
I booked because I had wanted to do a silent retreat for a while and I had no idea I could do this with horses. It popped up online and I immediately knew this was the one to do. I didn’t really have any expectations or actually any burning issues to resolve, or so I thought! it just seemed something good to do. So to say I was not disappointed is a massive understatement. I arrived in the evening and was greeted with so much warmth by Katherine. Warmth and a delicious dinner and that was the running theme throughout the five days. I just felt so well looked after, it was wonderful. There were three of us in the group so we had a brief opportunity to talk with each other before entering silence the following morning. After breakfast we went to meet Katherine’s beautiful horses, Ellie and Yogi. Our introduction to them was gentle - some brushing and letting them find their way around us. There was a preliminary guided meditation and after a while the horses came and stood with us. It’s difficult to describe the effect they have but it is one of profound peace as you absorb their energy and I guess, they yours. Over the next few days we all felt increasingly at ease with them and they with us. It was so beautiful. The afternoons were spent in guided meditation and there was also time to explore the lovely village of Arnside - the beach is just down the road from the house. The locals did not seem at all offended by a warm smile in response to their friendly hellos! Evenings were free to meditate, read or write a journal. Katherine also gave me the most incredible massage midway through the week. An optional extra but well worth it. Most of the people I told before I went were pretty amused at the idea I could be silent for 4 days but I didn’t find it hard at all. It was actually so freeing and this is the surprising bit: Having gone really just for a break, the impact the whole experience has had on me has been profound and lasting. Within less than a week after my return I calmly, but with absolute conviction, moved away from a situation that has been difficult for me for many years and that till now I did not know how to handle. I never expected that to happen. There is no doubt that if you are open to the experience it will bring up “stuff” but you are so protected there and if you need to talk to Katherine in that time she is always there for you. I so recommend this on any number of levels and needless to say will be back as soon as I can.Thank you so much Katherine x
This experiences not only left an impression it recalibrated me.The four days I spent in silence with the horses felt like a reunion with peace as a living, breathing presence. I felt held, witnessed, and gently invited back into awe. The stillness wasn’t empty. It was alive. And within that silence, something in me softened and re-opened.There was forgiveness, of self, of the body, of the past. There was the kind of rest that sleep alone can’t provide. There was a deep sense of being looked after by something ancient, something sacred. To be without tech, surrounded by nature, and held in the field of such wise, sentient beings - the horses, was healing beyond words. I made peace with parts of myself I didn’t even know were still holding tension. My nervous system sighed in relief. My heart cleared. The present moment wrapped around me like a warm shawl, and I remembered how good it feels to simply be.And of course, beloved Katherine who held it all together with her radiant love, exquisitely expressed through her delicious cooking! If you’re longing to return to your essence to remember what’s real, this retreat is a portal.I’ll be going back. With love,Haider
Reflecting on my recent experience, I felt quite let down and initially debated whether to leave a review. However, I think it’s important to share honest feedback, especially given how disappointed I feel looking back. At £60 per person, I had certain expectations for the day, and unfortunately, the experience didn’t meet them. I booked through the official website, which stated a 9am start time. We left at 6:50am to ensure we arrived on time, only to find no one there. After contacting Katherine, she informed us that the session actually began at 11am and that the website was incorrect. After a two-hour drive, this was frustrating and significantly impacted the rest of our day. There was no real apology or explanation, which left me feeling confused and honestly a bit foolish. As someone relatively new to meditation, I expected more guidance and structure. Instead, there was a strong focus on sharing personal stories and emotions, which felt more like a group therapy session than a meditation retreat. This made me quite uncomfortable, especially being asked to share in front of strangers. I don’t believe this format is suitable for beginners. That said, the horses were lovely - clearly well cared for - and being able to interact with them was a highlight. Unfortunately, the overall experience felt unstructured and unpolished. I’ve since emailed Katherine the day after my experience to let her know the website listing was incorrect, but I can see it still hasn’t been updated. I also haven’t received a reply, which has added to my overall disappointment. All in all, I don’t feel the experience was worth the cost, and I wouldn’t choose to return.
